Schatz Leads After First Run
The first race of the 2021 FIA Hill Climb Masters has been completed on the 3km Rampa da Falperra track.
The leading car is the no40 NP01-2 Oreca (Category 4 / OpSC) of Geoffrey Schatz, the French driver being the first to post a sub 1m03s time with a 1m02.722, which was 0.233s ahead of the only other competitor to break the 63 second barrier, the no1 Osella FA30 Zytek (Category 2 / D/E2-SS) of Christian Merli.
Italy’s Simone Faggioli was third fastest with a 1m03.129 in the no2 Norma M20 FC Zytek (Category 2 / E2-SC).
Reto Meisel continues to dominate Category 3, the Swiss driver posting a 1m14.957 in the no75 Mercedes-Benz SLK 340 (Category 3 / OpTCGT) and 13.2 seconds faster than the 2nd placed car in Category 3, the no140 Seat Leon Cup Racer Mk3 (Category 3 / OpTCGT) of French driver Sarah Bernard with a 1m28.203.
Category 1 was a Polish 1-2-3 in the first run with the no80 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX (Category 1 / Group 1) of Daniel Stawiarski posting a 1m15.182 to take the lead, 0.193s ahead of the no79 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo V (Category 1 / Group 1) of Szymon Lukaszczyk and 0.805s ahead of the no77 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X RS (Category 1 / Group 2) of Michal Ratajczyk.
There were a few track stoppages during the session with all of the drivers OK after the accidents.
